Y&T / Glyder - Oxford Academy 16th September 2008

So a few hours after the Metallica gig we move to the slightly smaller Academy in Oxford.
Crowd was 4-500 but gave both bands a good reception.Glyder were the support act from Ireland. Very good I have to say, very tight. A bit Thin Lizzyish with a great singer and 2 guitar attack. It will be interesting to see them grow over the next few years.

So to Y&T's now yearly tour. The band were in fine form in fact I think Dave Meniketti was even more soulful than normal. They played a two and a quarter hour set with all the classics Meanstreak, Hurricane, Black Tiger, Dirty Girl, Rescue Me, Forever and I Believe in You to finish.
This year we also got
  • Lucy and Ten Lovers (Ten)
  • Fly Away and Pretty Prison (Endangered Species)
  • Looks like Trouble (Down for the Count)
  • Don't Wanna Lose (Black Tiger)
  • Don't Stop Runnin' (In Rock)
  • Knock you Out (Earthshaker)
  • Squeeze (with Phil on vocals)
We had nearly ten different songs. It's great to hear something different on an annual tour especially when you've been a fan for 30 years.

So good to see quite a few changes to the set. The band were in superb form and Phil Kennemore gets more like a pantomime dame each tour (if you saw him you would understand)
So totally different to the night before but that is what makes live music so much fun I look forward to next year's tour but with a band this good I could go nightly.
Dave Meniketti I salute you!
