Foreigner - Acoustique

Acoustique has given Foreigner a chance to strip ten of their classic track down to basics and have some fun along the way. Long, Long Way from Home and Cold as Ice introduce the listener to the laid back world of this CD with Kelly Hansen really coming to the fore in this minimalist mix. Some tracks like Starrider (which contains a great sax solo from Tom Gimbel) and Waiting for Girl Like You seemed obvious treatment for the acoustic treatment, but I was surprised to see Juke Box hero on the track listing. How would this fair as an acoustic track? Well I have to say very, very well. Sweeping Violas and violins replace the ripping guitar solo of the original. The final acoustic number on the CD is a great version of the Elvis Presley classic That’s All Right.

Three non acoustic tracks complete the CD. The first is new song, Save Me, and the second a new version of I Want To Know What Love Is (I expected to see that amongst the acoustic tracks). Both of these have been taken from the expanded Acoustic and More package. The final bonus track is When it Comes to Love from the 2010 CD Can’t Slow Down.
To be honest it took me a few listens to get into the songs in this unfamiliar format, but after a few plays of the songs take on their new image and are a welcome addition to Foreigner family of songs.
