The Answer/The Union - Electric Ballroom Camden 15-03-12

A double header with 2 of the UK’s finest up and coming bands led to a large crowd coming out on a Thursday night.

A new venue for me and first up were Skam from Leicester. A young 3 piece who have released one cd “It’s Come To This”.

5 tracks were played in a Maiden/UFO/Foo Fighters style with lead singer and guitarist Steve Hill being quite a find.

Best crowd response was for “Massacre”, the single ”No Lies” and  “Dead From The Waist Down” and they certainly are a band to watch.

As the crowd continued to grow we next had “The Union” who are touring in support of last years “Sirens Song” cd.

Over the course of an hour we had a great mix of their 2 cd’s and her’s what they played.

Watch The River Flow
Black God
Blame It On Tupelo
Saviour
Step Up To The Plate
Obsession
The Remedy
Cut The Line
Easy Street
Black Monday
Siren’s Song

With Luke Morley (guitar) and Chris Childs (bass) both formerly in Thunder it takes someone rather good to overshadow them. That man is Pete Shoulder who really leads from the front. His superb voice and also great guitar playing show he is a consummate frontman. Luke really seems happy to play second fiddle to him!!

They really got the place jumping especially during “Tupelo”, ”Step Up To The Plate” and last song of the set ”Siren’s Song” showing a real sense of depth to all the songs.

Heavy and quiet they can do it all.

Here’s to the next cd.

Most of the crowd had come to see The Answer and they didn’t let anyone down. In support of last year’s excellent “Revival” cd they played for one hour and 20 minutes and showed how they are developing into a real special group.

We had a good cross section of their career played with 7 off the new cd and here is the set list:

New Day Rising
Under The Sky
Vida (I Want You)
Faith Gone Down
Come Follow Me
Trouble
Nowhere Freeway
Preachin’
Tornado
Too Far Gone
One More Revival
Encores of Evil Man
Waste Your Tears

Led by Cormac Neeson who is an amazing frontman. His infectious stage presence when he never stands still just get the crowd going and his voice gets ever stronger.

To his right Paul Mahon on guitar again grows ever better. His riffing and solos are top draw and his slide work on “Preachin” was brilliant.

In fact during “Preachin” the whole gig went off like a bomb. Neeson was carried over the crowd and he didn’t miss a note. The crowd seemed to react to this and didn’t let up.

They played a reworked version of new single “Nowhere Freeway” with an acoustic and vocal start until the second chorus which made a good song even better.

Ending the set with an extended version of “Revival” with plenty of crowd participation led us to a 2 song encore.

Not many bands can play us a track from their new cd as last song of the night and have it greeted like an all time favourite.

The Answer are that good and grow with every cd and mile on the road.

An excellent triple header as it turned out.

And at £18 great value for money too!!
