Magnus Karlsson's Freefall Kingdom Of Rock

Magnus Karlsson's Freefall release their second album and the follow up to the 2013 debut with Kingdom Of Rock due to be released on November the 6th on Frontiers Records Srl.

Magnus has one of the most celebrated cv's over the last decade after first coming to many people's attention with 3 albums with Last Tribe and then as a songwriter, guitarist and producer with Allen /Lande,Starbreaker,Bob Catley and Kiske /Somerville amongst others.

He then added to that in 2008 when he joined the mighty Primal Fear before the first Freefall album back in 2013.

The debut was a perfect slice of Euro anthemic molten hard rock and Kingdom Of Rock for me tops that with a wonderful production and quality songs and a long list of world class vocalist's that include TONY HARNELL (Skid Row, TNT, Starbreaker), RICK ALTZI (Masterplan, At Vance), DAVID READMAN (Pink Cream 69, Voodoo Circle), JORN LANDE, JAKOB SAMUEL (The Poodles), JOE LYNN TURNER (Rainbow, Malmsteen, Deep Purple), TONY MARTIN (Black Sabbath), HARRY HESS (Harem Scarem),JAKOB SAMUEL (The Poodles) and REBECCA DE LA MOTTE.

Magnus wrote all the music and lyrics with the killer production handled by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Pretty Maids).Magnus plays all guitars, bass and keyboards with only the fantastic Jaime Salazar on drums (The Flower Kings)stopping the full set.He also manages lead vocals on 2 tracks too yes he can do it all.

There is no re inventing the wheel here and if you loved the debut then jump right in.Melodic heavy rock with big riffs and even bigger choruses with each song fitting the vocalist perfectly. With multi vocalist's there can be a dip in the flow of the album but with Magnus's seal of quality work that doesn't happen here with every vocal melody a joy.

The title track kicks it off with Jorn Lande vocal that makes you wish Magnus can tempt him and Russell Allen into another Allen/Lande album. Razor sharp riffing and some added keys give it a real depth and some superb Salazar drumming all add to a classic melodic bombastic piece of music that brings a smile to my face every time I hear it!! Jorn sings like only he can with Magnus adding guitar melodies where he feels the need and a superb fast fingered guitar solo which is always melodic and tells it's own story.

Out Of The Dark with it's heavy riff is a pounding rocker with a great vocal from Jakob Samuel.I don't really get The Poodles so good to hear him on here in fine form.

Next up is No Control with a Joe Lynn Turner vocal and is just fantastic.A bouncy hard rock number with an AOR  feel with a great guitar melody at the start and a hint of keyboards in the background and Joe doing what Joe does.I love the way the guitar riff stays out of the way in the verse and then kicks in for the chorus.A new Sunstorm album with Magnus in charge would be great.Superb picked guitar solo on a song made for radio with the biggest of big choruses. The Japanese cd has Magnus singing on an acoustic version that gives it a different feel with no loss in quality.

When The Sky Falls sees Tony Martin on an epic number built on a rock hard at times squealing riff that builds to another monumental chorus with Tony in superb voice. The guitar solo from Magnus fits so well and like everything he does is very melodic.Magnus has done such a superb job picking the vocalist for the song as this one fits Tony like a glove.

Angel Of The Night sees David Readman give his all on a driving rocker with added guitar melodies a plenty and a big chugging riff and thunderous Salzar drumming and yet another huge chorus.

A keyboard swathe and then guitar melody starts I Am Coming For You that then drops to an acoustic and drum led number with Magnus showing he can sing too.The guitar kicks in pre chorus and more melody guitar to verse two before a lengthy guitar solo that has more than one part to it.

Another Life has a celtic style acoustic guitar jig at the start before the drums and guitar suddenly change it to a mid paced rocker all sang with plenty of power by Rick Altzi. As the chorus kicks in the swirling keyboard led jig restarts!!A wah wah guitar type solo gives it a different slant.

As Never Look Away finishes I just want to press play again.A big stop start guitar riff alongside a guitar melody is at the core with Tony Harnell producing the vocal of the year on a song that rocks along and then explodes on the chorus.Very T.N.T. like and when Harnell screams at the end of the chorus you can imagine hands being raised at a concert.A new heavy guitar riff plays under Magnus's lengthy solo that just keeps on getting better each time I hear it!!

A Heart So Cold sees a Harry Hess vocal on a pounding rocker that would fit on any Harem Scarem album and I can't give it a better recommendation than that.Added keyboard flourishes under Magnus's big guitar riff add to the mix and Magnus again shines on a textured guitar solo and on a cd of big choruses another sure fire winner.Brilliant.

The Right Moment sees the pace drop with Rebecca De La Motte on vocals for the album's only ballad although with a squealing guitar riff on the chorus alongside some keyboard orchestration.Magnus really let's rip on the guitar solo with plenty of fast fingered flourishes showing he can shred with the best of them.

Walk This Road Alone sees Magnus back on vocals for a song that is built on a held guitar riff with added keyboard textures that then let the guitar reign at the end of the chorus.

Magnus Karlsson's Freefall have produced one of 2015's finest melodic rock releases with killer performances from everyone involved and Magnus Karlsson's stature in the genre goes up another level if that was possible.
