Gig number 197 - Y&T & Tigertailz

Y&T have a few firsts in my life.
  • First support act at an arena show in 1982 AC/DC at Wembley Arena.
  • First band we stopped backstage to get LP's signed Oxford 1983.
  • And now first ever gig on a boat...
Yes moored up in Bristol east dock. Bar on the top and then into the hull for the gig. Like a galley round the top of the stage area.Held about 400 and it was packed.

Tigertailz were the support. Always thought they were a glam band but now came on played for 40 mins very happy heavy songs and went down very well.

Now Y&T - sometimes it can be difficult to be objective when you have loved a band for so long. I grew up with Earthshaker,Black Tiger and Meanstreak on constant rotation. Classics one and all, all now remastered and available from www.menniketi.com Buy them all.

We managed to get dead centre leaning on the front of the stage so go guys. About 6 light bulbs were in evidence. This is rock n'roll in the purest form.

On they come to Open Fire and follow it with Hungry For Rock. Dave is singing and soloing about 2 feet in front of me. (In fact on Meniketti's forum a guy has taken some very close up photo's and the side of my head is in about 6 of them!)
The sound is loud but clear. We then get Hard Times, Lipstick and Leather and then an extended Dirty Girl. Mean Streak was awesome as always and then Straight thru the heart off of Meanstreak as a surprise.

Now on the last tour they had an request spot so I had thought of what I could ask. Dave asks we shout out and I go for "Go for the Throat" off the live cd and a bonus on IRWT. He says we might do that but then asks another guy who asks for This Time off IRWT. They had never ever played this song before but 6.5 mins later fab. He then asks again and hands me the microphone. I ask for GFTT...

....AND HE SAYS OK THEN.!!!!

They start it get it wrong start again and no probs fab fab. How many gigs can you choose the set list? Last year he asked me and I said one that they always play.Clever eh???

We go thru Hurricane, Black Tiger and 6 others before "I Believe In You" and "Forever" as the encore. 2 hours plus it was stunning. Dave is a god.Simple.

We found out thru Jill Meniketti(Dave's wife and t shirt/cd seller) that they would be out soon. So we hung around and 20 mins later they did although not Phil (same as 24 yeras ago!!) Dave signed my ticket said they hoped to be back next year they have an offer to record a new cd and another unearthed cd. So very busy. John Nymann was a lovely guy in fact we had a couple of chats during the gig. Lovely fella and Mike the drummer saw my Journey t-shirt and said that Steve Smith is the best drummer in the world.

Shaz asked a roadie to get Phil to sign her ticket as the Tigertailz guys had earlier.

So a real top night out Dave was 24 years ago and is now a real genuine bloke who cares for the fans.

Roll on next year.6 times and counting.

Next gig the 5th Tesla, then the 10th Heaven and Hell and then Foreigner on the 13th.

ME.
