Saxon Holmfirth 1st November 08

Amazing the Rock trivia you pick up on a night out. Did you know that Biff Byford met his first girlfriend at Holmfirth Youth Club? No neither did I but he did, ‘cos he said so.

This was pure heaven for me Britain’s greatest rock band in Yorkshire’s best venue. Support was from Tribe who were very professional, and I suspect we shall hear a lot more from them.

Holmfirth Picturedrome is sold out and buzzing tonight, as the intro music starts cries of “Saxon” reach deafening proportions. The set opened with Motorcycle Man and straight away you know we are in for a very special evening. The set was cleverly put together with one older track followed by a newer track. I can’t possibly remember them all but some highlights include: - Let Me Feel Your Power, Bands played on, Broken Heroes, 747, Does This Town Know how to Rock, I’ve got to Rock (possibly last time it will be played live) new single Live to Rock and Hellcat (first time they were played live) Ashes to Ashes, Attila The Hun, Never Surrender, Denim And Leather, Heavy Metal Thunder and of course Wheels of Steel.

No sign of Harvey Goldsmith though.

A great night out. So out of 10. 10 for the band, 10 for the venue and 10 for the beer. I make that 30 out 10 beat that.
Next Saturday its Saxon and Motorhead!!!
