Pat McManus Band – Bingley Arts Centre – 7 October 2012

This was my first visit to Bingley Arts Centre and what a great venue it is. Looking forward already to FM appearing here in March 2013.

I was lucky enough to catch The Pat McManus Band deliver a great support slot to the Quireboys earlier in the year. Pat and his highly accomplished band, Gordon Sheridan on Bass and Paul Faloon on Drums, delivered another great set tonight.

We got songs from right across Pat’s career including the classic Needle in the Groove and Runaway Dreams from his days in Mama’s Boys, the latter including a quick burst on the fiddle.

Songs from Pat’s three solo CDs quite rightly made up the bulk of the set with highlights including Back in the Saddle, Got the Right, Juggernaut, Ready to Rock, Short Sharp Shock and a the tribute to Gary Moore Belfast Boy. Towards the end of the main set the pace calmed down with a short acoustic interlude which includes a tribute to another Irish guitar legend Rory Gallagher, Return of the G man. Pat then showed us his skill on the bouzouki during Walking in the Shadow of Giants.

Then followed the “raffle” first prize was the big promotional poster from outside. I understand this raised £55 for charity. (I didn’t win the poster).

The evening was brought to a close with blistering encore of La Grange & Black Rose.

A great night out, possibly the best £12 I’ve spend this year.
