Kodiak Jack The Water Rats London 08-09-14

After 2 acoustic support acts , with one joining us in the front bar and crooning to us which was a little weird , we moved into the back room of the pub and waited for Kodiak Jack.

In front of a very small crowd Kodiak Jack hit the stage like it was Wembley Stadium and they deserve great credit for that.

It had the feel of a rehearsal but they played like their lives depended on it. After seeing their recent support slot with Tesla and having lived with the fantastic Alhambra cd since their riff heavy attitude driven rock needs to be heard by the masses. 

Led by vocalist Bryn Roberts who's aggressive vocal tone fits the music so well . I love the way the band use light and shade with the quieter moments making the music hit home even harder as they all crash back in.

Guitarists Jeff Arnold and Jon Karp riff hard and it was a shame that Jeff's early set solos were a little hard to hear due to the sound mix. Kieran on drums and Kev on bass lay down a real heavy blues stomp which let the rest of the band to do their thing.

They played the following 7 songs in their 30 minute set.

From the hard hitting opener " Get Out Alive " with its huge chorus and riff  to the epic ending of  "Coming Home " which builds from a  slow beginning to a monster of a song , Kodiak Jack were quite simply excellent with the only shame being the poor turnout as they deserve so much more.
