Evergrey Camden Underworld 26-9-17

First up was Greek 5 piece Need who's 45 minute set relied heavily on their Dream Theater influences with lengthy prog passages with plenty of time changes and some superb vocals too.
It all came together for the last track Hegaiamas A Song For Freedom which is the title track of their recently released 4th album which runs at just under 20 minutes and had everything but the kitchen sink in it and unlike some managed not to disappear up it's own bum.The crowd loved them and one to check out.

Evergrey still on the road after last year's Delain tour and the release of The Storm Within cd had the crowd in the palm of their hand from the word go.

The Underworld is perfect for an Evergrey gig with the music and mood matching the strobe lighting effect and the darkness of the club.

Hitting us with a greatest hits set that included only 2 from The Storm Within this was a long time fan's dream 90 minutes.

Tom Englund and Henrik Danhage on guitars stalked the edge of the stage and Jonas Ekdahl on drums was mesmeric as he drove the band to even greater heights.

An excellent sound helped the denseness of the music and Tom's vocals were clear and concise.

Black Undertow is for me one of the best song's of the last decade with goose bumps and hair's up on the back of my neck.Huge chorus and even bigger guitar riffs and groove and Henrik's guitar solo at the end of the song was stunning.

Tom showed off his melodic vocal range and tone on I'm Sorry accompanied only by keyboards and the evening was finished in style with the superb King Of Errors and more crushing drums and huge guitar riffs with Henrik again shining on his guitar solo.

Superb.
